“Sociedad 13” “mas me crece”, is a collective sample of a group of thirteen (13) artists whose works navigate and converge between related means of expression ranging from painting, sculpture, photography and other contemporary trends. The works present here address topics related to social status, processes of identity of contemporary subject, the excessive consumerism, to mass culture, and postcolonial establishing correlations between the current landscape of Puerto Rico today policies.
There is a one-of-a-kind space on Santurce’s Calle Elisa Cerra whose charm is inescapable as it celebrates the history of the El Gandúl community and its people, echoing the past while also reflecting the present.
La Perla’s Portrait will be a kite festival organized with residents from San Juan, Puerto Rico’s La Perla community, a marginalized urban neighborhood located on a hill outside the old San Juan walls. Through workshops bringing together most members of this community and others, La Perla residents will learn how to make, personalize and fly their own kites.
Cities like New York and Paris have long captured the art world’s attention, wooing artists, collectors, critics and curators who have hurried to call the hubs home. Other storied art havens include Los Angeles, Berlin and Hong Kong, amongst others — locales that have managed to snare auction houses or gallery giants, rounding out an entirely too sparse a map of art destinations.
