“Abstracción Etnográfica de Carnaval” (Ethnographic Carnival Abstraction) is a series of works made from collected beer cardboard boxes, reinforced and painted with colored dots on a monochrome background. The colored dots technique comes from the Vejigantes masks of Ponce, a city in the south of Puerto Rico. Vejigantes are a folkloric syncretic character, invoking spirits and devils which take different significations depending on the island’s region.
